IS caused $37 billion damage to Iraq's infrastructure: Report

Baghdad – The damages which the Islamic State (IS) organization caused to the infrastructure of Iraq are estimated to be around 42 trillion IQD (approx. 37 billion USD), according to a report by Turkish Anadulo news agency.

The report cited Abdulzahra al-Hindawi, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Planning, as saying the total figure does not include the damages to the houses and personal possessions of residents of the war-torn areas.

The official added the Ministry of Planning conducted a survey in the areas which were under IS control and found the volume of the damages “extremely extensive, as 80% of the areas has been razed.”
